PRESENTATION

A jewel of sixteenth century architecture, the castle lies in the centre of a small village which is situated in the foot hills of the biellese prealps. It is surrounded by extended woodlands with a rich fauna and flora and it is an ideal place for people seeking peace and quiet in the countryside.
The province of Biella offers interesting opportunities for connoisseurs of good food and wine and for those people interested in local handicrafts and winter sports. There are also some famous religious sanctuaries in the area which are well worth visiting.

HISTORY

The history of the castle can be said to have begun around the year 1500 when Pietro Gromo, an important gentleman of Biella, bought from the Avogadro family of Valdengo the feud and with it a courtyard dating from around the year 1000.
The new owner of the feud added to this construction a fortified house with a round tower presumably built for observation purposes and not defence: Ternengo has almost always been a tranquil and hard working place. The castle then assumed a rather unusual feature for this area of a “Villa Castellata”.
Even today, not withstanding the modifications carried out in the course of the centuries which have changed its original aspect, it can be admired in all its beauty, because it has been well maintained. One feature has remained unchanged with time: the atmosphere of peace and serenity which you perceive inside the walls has been faithfully kept, as it is described by the four inscriptions found on the vaulted ceiling of the staircase: “Opus, opes, studium, parcitas”..... which even now are here present....

ACCOMODATION

The “manor” lies in the centre of a green area boredered by a thick wood of sweet chestnut trees. This area of green is suitable for open air parties such as al fresco wedding receptions, etc. Inside the castle there is a large hall, with frescoes on the ceiling furnished in a manner suitable for holding small business and similar meetings. An ample living room with a large fireplace, two bedrooms with frescoed ceilings provide the ideal surroundings to pass a Bed & Breakfast weekend. The owners of the castle will be happy to spend moments of conviviality with their guests.
